Cleanup brigade
(DEQ) — The Division of Environmental Quality cleanup brigade will be at it again, picking up trash at Unai Dankulu Agigan Beach, better known as Coral Ocean Point.
If you would like to volunteer your time to clean and beautify the island, be at the beach on Saturday, July 12, at 8 a.m.
Many of the items are picnic debris and some household garbage. Gloves, trash bags and refreshments will be provided for volunteers.
Volunteers will clean until 10 a.m. and break for drinks and then continue, if needed.
This month, outstanding brigade volunteers who participated in at least 10 monthly cleanups will receive a brigade cap and those who participated in at least three cleanups will receive a green brigade t-shirt.
Volunteers removed 1440 pounds of debris from Old Man by the Sea on June 7. The DEQ cleanup brigade began in 1996 and continues to maintain clean, healthy beaches.
For more information about volunteering, contact DEQ at 664-8500.

(DEQ) — The Division of Environmental Quality says water samples collected from Saipan’s Jeffries Beach contained excessive concentrations of fecal indicator bacteria — enterococci — that exceeded the CNMI’s marine water quality standards.
These bacteria can indicate the presence of human and animal waste in the water.
To adequately address public health concerns, DEQ has given these locations a red flag and advises the public not to fish or swim within 300 feet of these locations for the next 48 hours or until otherwise notified.
