COLONIA, Yap (Yap State Government) — A power disruption hit the island at 11 a.m. on Monday.
A minor problem detected by the power generation on one of the units prompted the power company to cease operation and correct the problem.
Prior to the power disruption the management requested the radio station to assist in disseminating the information to both the public and private sectors of its intent to temporarily turn off the power so its crew could switch operation to other units.
The power company apologized for a very short notice but this was something emergency in nature that needed quick action in order to avoid a major disaster.
It took only 12 minutes for the power generation division to do the switching and make all the corrections on that unit.
