NMI Humanities Council reschedules ‘chacha’ event
(NMI Humanities Council) —To kick off the NMI Humanities Month celebrations in October, the NMI Council for the Humanities has rescheduled its first chacha dance fundraiser to Oct. 2, 2009.
“Blame it on the Cha Cha Cha” will feature live music from Olomwaay, Parker and Burning Bush at the Saipan World Resort Jungle Stage from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
“We are honored to continue the efforts of our late executive director Tony Deleon Guerrero to make this fundraiser a worthwhile and enjoyable community event,” said the Council’s Development Committee chairwoman Janet H. King.
“We are also still actively seeking sponsors for this fundraiser through educational tax credit donations to the council that will allow us to continue or create new programs for the community,” she said. “We hope many of our local businesses will be able to help.”
The Educational Tax Credit program allows taxpayers — businesses or individuals — to make cash contributions to the Humanities Council and receive a nonrefundable credit against local wage and salary, gross receipts, and earnings taxes. The credit is a dollar-for-dollar reduction in the actual tax owed to the CNMI government.
The council is a private, non-profit, organization with 501(c) (3) status that has operated in the Commonwealth since 1991 and is eligible to receive educational tax credit or ETC.
Its mission is to foster awareness, understanding and appreciation of the humanities through support of educational programs that relate the humanities to the indigenous cultures and to the intellectual needs and interests of the people of the Commonwealth.
“Blame it on the Cha Cha Cha” will feature a chacha contest, live performances all night long and a chance to help a great community organization.
Tickets are $10 per person with a complimentary drink and will be available at the NMIHC office at the King’s Plaza in Dandan this week. Call 235-4785 for more information.
