HANMI elects new chairman, directors
HANMI — The Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands elected Hyatt Regency Saipan General Manager Nick Nishikawa as Chairman during its monthly membership meeting yesterday (July 30). Members also elected Pacific Islands Club General Manager Kieran Daly and Saipan Grand Hotel General Manager Ed Cho to the Board of Directors. The elections fill vacancies left by last month’s resignation of former Chairwoman Lynn Knight and the departure of former Director and Saipan World Resort General Manager Hong-chul Shin earlier this year.
“This is a very difficult time for our industry, but we will continue to work with the government, our tourism partners and the community to face our challenges, including the uncertainties of immigration federalization and the decline of visitor arrivals,” said Nishikawa. “HANMI members are committed to maintaining our high level of service and to helping ensure our guests leave with a positive impression of the Northern Marianas.”
Daly has served as a HANMI Director in four earlier terms. Cho is serving on the board for the first time. They joined Secretary BK Park (GM, Fiesta Resort and Spa), Treasurer Mike Johnson (Managing Partner, Deloitte Touche), and Director Hiroki Sugie (GM, Aqua Resort Club).
After 20 years of active involvement with HANMI and five years as Chairwoman, Knight has relocated from the Northern Mariana Islands to Washington, D.C.
“Lynn has been instrumental in representing our membership in government and community initiatives, facilitating the development of policies and procedures, and providing informed leadership,” said Nishikawa. “We appreciate all she has done on behalf of the industry.”
HANMI was established in 1985 as a professional forum for the hospitality industry of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Currently, HANMI has 13 members.
