CELTA is an internationally recognized credential offered through courses at the United Kingdom-based university.
The CELTA course is specially designed to expose participants to a variety of practical skills required of teachers of English to foreign students.
It afforded participants an opportunity to deploy teaching practices in front of an actual audience.
As a course assessment requirement, participants were given writing assignments focusing on adult learning, the English language system, language skills, and classroom teaching.
“Dr. Papadopoulos’s achievement brings great honor and prestige to the college community,” said NMC President Carmen Fernandez. “His certification will surely enhance the college’s efforts to provide a first-rate education to both resident and foreign students.”
Papadopoulus, who attended the certification course over the past summer, is an instructor at the college’s Language and Humanities Department.
He has also written many periodicals focused on the effects and benefits of culture in education.
His articles have been published in local and regional publications.
‘Tantalizing and Troubled Visions’
THE public is invited to the opening of “Tantalizing and Troubling Visions,” an exhibition of photographic works by historian and author Dirk H.R. Spennemann, 6 p.m.-8 p.m., today, Oct. 7.
Spennemann, a professor in historic preservation and cultural heritage studies with the Institute of Land, Water and Society at Charles Sturt University Australia, has published several books on the CNMI.
Spennemann is also an accomplished photographic artist, who in his recent work aspires to interpret cultural elements through the visual arts.
He has had several solo exhibitions in Australia, one of which is currently touring.
Additional exhibitions are scheduled for 2010 in both Australia and Alaska.
The exhibition features people and places in today’s CNMI, taken over the course of one-week in Sept. 2009.
All of the photographs in the exhibition were taken using a unique method of photography called “Through The Viewfinder,” or TTV, a process that involves the capturing of images broadcast on the viewfinder of an antique camera, by a newer high-quality digital camera.
Spennemann will be on hand to talk about the work, and the equipment he uses in the TTV process.
Entrance to the museum will be free for the opening reception.
The museum is open Mondays through Fridays, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Entrance is $1 for residents.
