Art contest for students

Carey Morishige of the NOAA Marine Debris Program told the Variety that they want to see how students interpret the impact of marine debris on  coastal waters and what they are doing about it.

Morishige said the entries will be judged based on creativity, artistic presentation, and relevance to the theme.

Thirteen winning entries will be chosen for a calendar/planner designed to help raise awareness about the global problem of marine debris. The overall winner will be on the calendar cover.

“There will also be a section for ‘honorable mentions,’ ” Morishige said.

The artwork should be hand-drawn by the student using any art medium including colored pencils, crayons and paint. No computer graphics will be accepted.

An entry must be on 8.5” x 11” white, non-glossy paper. Do not laminate your entries. Submitted artworks must be flat and can be scanned, which means no glued pieces.

Include a description of no more than 50 words you’re your artwork. There is a space provided for the description on the entry form.

Each artwork submitted must be labeled on the back with the name of the student, age and grade, along with the teacher’s name, school, address and contact number.
