MHS student to attend Junior Statesmen program at Princeton

Marianas High School junior Ignacio Dela Cruz received his acceptance letter last month and is currently preparing for a summer full of challenging classes focused on government and foreign relations as well as congressional

debate workshops covering the pressing issues of today.

“The Upward Bound staff and I are very proud of Ignacio,” said UBP director Marian Tudela. “We look forward to hearing his stories when he returns after the summer.”

In order to be accepted into the summer program, Dela Cruz wrote three essays: one about why he should be accepted into the program, one on a current issue, and one for scholarship. He also had to receive top recommendations from school counselors and teachers and maintain a stellar high school transcript.

At the summer program, Dela Cruz will reside in a university dormitory and attend classes in university classrooms.

Certain days of the week will also be set aside for guest speakers that will include past U.S. presidents and other leaders in the world of politics.

JSA is a national organization that affords high school students the opportunity to meet and discuss top issues around the world.
