NMHC planning and administrative assistant Jacob Muna said, “We’re still working on a memorandum of agreement between Rota and Tinian mayor’s offices.”
He told Variety that the housing agency has yet to find out when CHC will take over the administration of the facility.
In the meantime, the mayor’s office of Rota and Tinian are doing the upkeep of the facility while NMHC does the monitoring.
Muna said NMHC and Office of the Governor are monitoring from time to time whether the facility is being used as intended.
He confirmed too that the last remaining tenants have all moved out of the facility and the management contract had ended.
Asked on an update regarding compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Muna said they’re still working on it.
“I specifically told the Rota and Tinian offices that if they were to accommodate a person that needs ADA accommodation, they would have to transfer to the main one up here,” said Muna referring to the guest house on Navy Hill.
He also said, “The ones that are less critical, they should be put there at the Marianas Medical Referral Center for the time being until such time that we put it up to compliance with ADA.”
NMHC acquired the property formerly known as Valley Inn from the Commonwealth Development Authority in July 2011 for $380,000.
NMHC Administrator Joshua Sasamoto earlier informed the board that the housing agency had an understanding with the governor that medical referral patients from Tinian and Rota can immediately move in to the said As Lito facility.
The acquisition of the As Lito facility was part of the $1.9 million that the NMHC had to spend by Aug. 2, 2011.
With $1.9 million, the housing agency found three feasible projects to undertake: the As Lito property, the purchase of Koblerville lots where the proposed new junior high school will rise, and the replacement of the 500,000-gallon fuel tank of the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.
