Assault victim’s body to be repatriated Wednesday

Gonzales’s remains are expected to arrive at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila at about 10:45 p.m.

Gonzales’ assailant, Shane Jonathan Hocog, is scheduled to attend his preliminary hearing today in Superior Court.

Hocog, 22, is incarcerated at the Department of Corrections facility.

Tomorrow, there will be a 9 p.m. Mass for Gonzales at the Commonwealth Health Center’s chapel.

Gonzales’s four brothers — Winnie, Eric, Rommel, and Jomar — will claim his remains at the Manila airport, Variety learned.

“Both of our parents already recovered after learning Larry’s death. We are all sad. Our main focus so far is to coordinate the return of his remains and to prepare his wake,” Winnie Gonzales said in a telephone interview with the Variety.

He said the rest of their siblings are taking care of their parents in Pinamalayan, Mindoro Oriental, an island province south of Manila.

Winnie Gonzales said their family is grateful for all the individuals and organizations that have extended concern and assistance for his elder brother.

Here, the Philippine Consulate General and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration are in close contact with Larry Gonzales’ relatives in the Philippines, according to Welfare Officer Rey Tayag.

On Friday night, a rosary service for Gonzales was held at the Mt. Carmel Cathedral and close to a hundred people attended.

$1,812.10 was initially sent to Larry Gonzales’ parents in the Philippines as part of the funds generated during a fundraiser,

according to Ester Gracia, who is in charge of handling the funds.

Gracia said $1,582.40 was initially gathered in the solicitation drive while $623.50 were collected from donations. A $550 check was also donated.

She noted the overwhelming  support of the local and Filipino communities..

The United Filipino Organizations is also receiving donations for Larry Gonzales.

Hocog was arrested on March 4, 2010.

On the same day, Gonzales died at the hospital’s intensive care unit three days after being on a coma.

A $100,000 bail has been set by the court for Hocog’s temporary liberty.

Gonzales and Hocog were former boyfriends of a 17-year-old student at Kagman High School.

Police said jealousy triggered Hocog’s attack on Gonzales, who died of brain contusion and laceration due to blunt trauma.
