Bad weather delays Aggreko pipeline installation

The switch-on will still happen today, but in the late afternoon or in the evening, he said.

Muna said the installation is hampered by the continuous rain that flooded the drainage in an area where the fuel pipeline has been installed to connect the Aggreko depot to Power Plant 1 in Lowe Base.

Although, this problem is the responsibility of Aggreko, CUC and Department of Public Works personnel are working overtime to fix it, Muna said.

As an alternative, he added, CUC may use a mobile tanker for the fuel supply distribution while the pipeline connection is not yet ready.

The installation of the high voltage cable also added to the problem, he said.

According to Muna, “bad weather conditions” are causing all these difficulties.

If the switch-on is successful,  Power Plant 1 will generate an additional 14 megawatts from Aggreko’s generators which CUC is renting for a year at a cost of $6 million.

CUC has already modified its power grid to ensure that Power Plant 1 will continue to have system protection when it taps into Aggreko’s generators.

As of press time yesterday, Power Plant 1 was only generating 8.5 megawatts from Engines 6 and 8, since Engine 3 was down again.

Power Plant 2 was producing 2 megawatt from its Engine 6.
