Barcinas presents plan for Hopwood

“I plan to bring the wellness program to all HJHS staff and students,” he told Variety.

Barcinas said he will also initiate an “open door policy” for the school staff, parents, students and the community.

“This will make them feel that the school is their school and that everyone is invited to come and help the school one way or another,” he said.

According to Barcinas, he will assess and observe the current operations and programs and continue those that are working.

The programs of former principal Christine Masga, especially those that are beneficial to the school and the students, will continue to be implemented, he said.

“I know we have many intelligent and skilled and dynamic teachers and leaders at the school. Lots of talents and I want to use them to help me with my vision,” he added.

Barcinas said he will promote the concept of PeaceBuilder Character Education which he used at Dandan Elementary School.

The program will help students, staff and parents feel responsible for their own actions and behavior, he added.

“It takes a village to educate and raise a child so we as a school community must work hand in hand together to make our campus safe for everyone,” he said.

He wants to “to repaint the campus with brighter colors and make it exciting for everyone. I want to put signs that will help remind our community of the policies and regulations  when they enter the campus to pick up their children.”

Barcinas also aims to:

• Provide more extra-curricular programs, like intramural sports during lunch time and after school to keep students busy.

• Work closely with the PTA officers and members in creating  family events to bring all the family members together and enjoy or celebrate what is prepared by the students.

• Clear some of the plants or tress on campus that are not needed or are disturbing the power lines, which can cause some alarming and potential hazardous to everyone on campus.

• Plant more bright plants on campus with the help of the PTA, staff and students and to beautify the school so it can be more “inviting.”

• Purchase new air-conditioning units and reconstruct the old building so it can be used for sports or turned into a performing arts room or auditorium.

• Reconstruct  more conducive special education and therapy rooms.

• Reconstruct the drop-off and pick-up area to make it safer and smoother for cars and the school bus.

• Procure new technological equipment for the staff and students such as computers, an Elmo, or digital visual presenter as well as cameras for documenting and capturing the daily work of students in class and school events.

• Renovate the restrooms, expand the cafeteria and the library, build more classrooms, and purchase a new pick-up truck for transporting equipment and trash on campus.

• Build more tables, benches, bleachers, sports facilities and equipment for the students.

Barcinas said he also wants the students to tell  him what they want to change on campus.

He said he will work closely with his vice principal and leadership team, as well as the PTA, the Public School System, the government and the business community.
