‘Battle of the bands’ on Aug. 23

The top band will win an opening gig for the Palms Resorts Saipan’s Back to School Summer Bash  event.

“We’re still getting a lot of phone calls from bands that are interested to join,” said Susan Marchitti, Beach Road Magazine account manager. “But we have to stop at 10 bands to make the event more organized.”

The participating bands include Project X, Frozen Nipple, Rated R, Fritada, Past & Present, D is for Dangerous, High Pitch, Channel B and Burning Bush.

The audience can vote for their favorite band through text messaging. Their votes will make up 20 percent of each band’s total score.

There will be a panel judges selected by Beach Road Magazine.

“We want the judges to have a background in music. Someone who can really critique their performance,” said Marchitti.

Each band will have 20 minutes of play time.

“We want  the bands and the audience to enjoy themselves,” she added. “And we want the bands to get recognized and be exposed. Even if a band doesn’t win, someone from the public might really like it, and invite its members to play at  special parties.”

She added, “There are a lot of talents out there so we wanted to host something where anyone can join.”
