Some members of the community recently asked him to disclose more information about the group’s expenditures.
Villagomez said they do things affordably and rely on volunteer labor and expertise.
They try to hold great events every month despite their limited funding, he added.
In 2007, the Marianas Visitors Authority provided $10,000, that was used to buy supplies needed for the cleanups,Villagomez said.
$8,000 was spent and the remaining funds remained with MVA, he added.
“The MVA expenditure wasn’t a donation to Beautify CNMI. It was a government agency purchasing supplies and supporting other activities in the name of the Beautify CNMI campaign,” he said.
Villagomez believes that their donors appreciate the good results of the activities held by Beautify CNMI.
Their group, he added, is a coalition that includes agencies working together.
These include MVA, the Division of Environmental Quality and the Coastal Resource Management Office.
“Beautify CNMI has never had a grant, but our partners have had grants and the coalition as a whole has helped the individual partners carry out their respective missions,” Villagomez said.
