Behavioral health survey starts this Saturday

The Department of Public Health’s Community Guidance Center and the Department of Commerce’s Central Statistics Division are the leading agencies in the undertaking.

The Survey will start on April 23 for Saipan, May 10 for Rota, and May 13 for Tinian.

Villagomez said the survey will last for six to eight weeks on Saipan and two and four weeks on Rota and Tinian.

“The main objective…is to gain an understanding of behavioral health resources and needs in the CNMI with respect to substance use, such as alcohol and tobacco use,” he said.

Villagomez said they want to measure substance use in the CNMI within the last 30 days preceding the survey.

The survey will include the age at first use, perceived risk and harm of use, disapproval of substance use, perception of workplace policy, family communication around drug use and alcohol-related car crashes and injuries, he added.

He said trained enumerators will be visiting homes in the CNMI to conduct the survey and will each have official badges for identification.
