Bellas’ appointment will complete the four-year term of former CNMI Superior Court Judge and current Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona, who resigned from the committee due to her appointment to federal bench. The term ends on April 16, 2013.
“Thank you for your willingness to contribute your time and energy to this important function of the Unified Judiciary of Guam,” wrote Guam Chief Justice F. Philip Carbullido to Bellas.
Carbullido is also the chairman of the Judicial Council of Guam.
In a statement to Variety, Bellas said he accepted the appointment “because I feel honored that the Guam Judiciary Council has the confidence to entrust me with this responsibility.”
The committee has six members, two of which are judges or former judges.
The council appointed Bellas during its Oct. 27, 2011 meeting.
