Bolaven now a typhoon

(CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management) — Based on information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center-State Warning Point, Bolaven has been upgraded to a typhoon.

As of 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023, Bovalen was located

about 50 miles east-southeast of Rota;

about 75 miles south-southeast of Tinian;

about 80 miles south-southeast of Saipan;

about 90 miles east-northeast of Guam;

about 165 miles south of Anatahan;

about 250 miles south of Alamagan;

about 285 miles south of Pagan; and

about 330 miles south of Agrihan.

Maximum sustained winds: 80 mph.

Bolaven is moving west-northwest at 14 mph. It is expected to make a slight turn toward the northwest with little change in forward speed through Wednesday morning.

Bolaven is forecast to intensify through Tuesday evening.

Typhoon force winds extend outward from the center up to 35 miles while tropical storm force winds extend outward from the center up to 140 miles.

As of 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10 2023, Gov. Arnold I. Palacios maintained  Typhoon Condition I   for Saipan, Tinian and Rota.

Typhoon destructive winds are anticipated within 12 hours.
