JOHN Oliver Delos Reyes Bolis Gonzales will formally announce his candidacy for the U.S. Congress on KKMP Radio livestream, Facebook and Zoom on March 17, at 11 a.m.

Gonzales, a freelance business consultant and grants writer, said he will share his vision and plans to help people “no matter their origin and who live and call our beloved Marianas home.”

If elected, he said he would build upon the work done by the incumbent delegate, Democrat Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan, “to relentlessly work on pressing issues unique to our Northern Marianas and which matters to our people.”

First elected in 2008, Kilili is not seeking a ninth term.

Gonzales told Variety that he has submitted his letter of intent to run on the Republican Party slate.

The local GOP is accepting letters of intent until March 15.

Former Commonwealth Ports Authority Kimberlyn King-Hinds, who officially announced her candidacy on Feb. 29, is also seeking the GOP nomination.

According to CNMI Republican Party President Diego Benavente, if two or more persons want to run as the GOP candidate for Congress, a primary will be held before the November election.

House Floor Leader Edwin Propst, a Democrat, announced his candidacy for Congress on Feb. 6. His candidacy has been endorsed by Kilili and Gov. Arnold I. Palacios.

Senate President Edith Deleon Guerrero, former Judge Juan Tudela Lizama and Rep. Thomas John Manglona have also expressed interest in running for Congress.
