Brand new car sales up by 2.94% in June

In its latest report, the Commonwealth Auto Dealers Association said island’s three car dealers sold 35 brand new cars last month. The dealers sold only 34 in June last year.

Last month’s brand new vehicles sold included 12 sedans, 8 trucks, 4 vans and 11 sport utility vehicles.

Joeten Motors sold 14, a 40 percent of the market share. Triple “J” Motors followed with 13, representing 37.14 percent of the market share, followed by Microl Corp. with 8 sold for a 22.86 percent of the market share.

Toyota and Mazda are the leading brands of choice last month, selling 8 units each. Kia followed with 6 sold, Hyundai with 5, and Nissan and Ford with 4 each.

For the first half of 2011, the three car dealers sold a total of 233 brand new vehicles, a 24.84 percent decline compared to last year’s total sales of 310 for the same period.

Brand new vehicles sold from January to June included 91 sedans, 56 trucks, 16 vans, 66 sport utility vehicles and 5 others.

Microl Corp. sold the most brand new cars for the first half of the year with 90, followed by Joeten Motors with 80, and Triple “J” Motors with 63.

Toyota topped the sales for the six-month period with 89 units sold, followed by Mazda with 32, Nissan with 31, Hyundai with 25, Kia with 23, Ford with 18, Honda with 8, Chevrolet and Suzuki with one each, and others with 5 units sold.

The three car dealers sold 26 used vehicles last month, bringing to 138 units the number of used cars they sold from January to June this year.

Triple “J” sold 13 used cars; Microl Corp., 8; and Joeten Motors, 5.

Microl Corp. is the island’s distributor of Toyota and Chevrolet. Joeten Motors sells Nissan, Ford, Honda, Kia and other car brands  while Triple “J” is the local dealer of Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Suzuki, Mazda and others.
