Manhoben Center presents summer program

The youth center in Chalan Kanoa is equipped with a pool table, a ping-pong table, encyclopedia sets, and more. Also, it is located right across the street from a basketball court.

“The place was actually closed for about a year before they gave it to me,” said Calvani Deleon Guerrero who runs the Manhoben Center.

“Last year, they gave me about two weeks to come up with a summer program and we were able to come up with enough programs to make it happen. It’s a tradition for the manhoben to have a summer program. The program is not only for fun, it’s also educational,” he added.

“During the school year we offer tutorial services,” said Jaz Taman who has been with the House of Manhoben for the past seven years. “A lot of times kids come to play pool and ping-pong.”

This summer, programs offered are arts and crafts, weaving, ukulele lessons, bowling, the Motherread program, swimming, bead making, volleyball and soccer.

Yna Poquiz, one of the young girls attending the program for the second time, spoke of her experience last year: “It was fun. There were a lot of kids for arts and crafts.”

Gilian Villagomez, who is attending the summer program for the first time, told Variety about their events as of noon yesterday: “We made name tags using paper, glitter, and crafts. It’s really fun.”

At the time of their interview, the girls were working on weaving a rose crown out of coconut leaves.
