Broadcasters meet in Suva

SUVA (PINA) — Hundreds of leading broadcasters from around the world are to meet in Fiji following a successful Pacific bid to host the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association conference.

Pacific representatives at the 2002 conference which has just ended in Manchester, England, won the right to host the next conference, in 2004.

Communications Fiji Ltd. managing director and immediate past president of the Pacific Islands News Association, William Parkinson, said it would be a huge boost:

• for regional broadcasting, enabling broadcasters from throughout the region to participate in the conference and the many associated workshops and programs;

• for tourism, with many top international broadcasters coming to the Pacific Islands for the first time.

Parkinson was one of the leaders of the joint Pacific initiative.

He said Ken Clark, chief executive of Fiji Television, has been appointed to represent the Pacific hosts on the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association board.
