THE Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks prompted an 11-year-old Saipan student to send a letter to President Bush, and express her sympathy and concern for the victims.
On April 17, the president replied to Luise C. Villagomez’s letter.
“I was deeply touched by your concern for those who lost their lives or were injured, and for their families and friends,” Bush said. “Your message tells me that you are caring and thoughtful. During these difficult times, I am encouraged by your kindness and compassion for others. Mrs. Bush joins me in sending our warm wishes to you. God bless you.”
Villagomez, a 6th grader at Garapan Elementary School, said she was “excited” that the president replied to her letter.
She said her teacher, Rosie Herrera, and her classmates were also proud of her.
Her classmates and other Saipan students also wrote letters to airline companies as well as to the families of firefighters and policemen who lost their lives on Sept. 11.
“We wanted them to know that even though we are far from them, we also feel what they are going through,” Villagomez said.
She is the youngest child of Sen. Thomas P. Villagomez, R-Saipan, and CIP Administrator Vicky C. Villagomez.
The senator said he was “surprised” that the president replied to his daughter’s letter.
