MAJORITY of suspected prostitutes on island are “runaway” foreign workers, according to reliable sources.
Variety was told that a house on Saipan had at least 30 prostitutes. Several of them were former garment workers.
The pimps charge at least $60 a night and $150 for overnight stay, sources said.
Most of the women are Chinese.
In an interview, Attorney General Robert T. Torres promised to look into the reports and have it investigated.
“In these activities, there are always victims forced into (prostitution). We would see to it that the information is routed and investigated,” he told Variety.
He said AGO’s investigative unit continues to monitor prostitution-related activities on the island and on Tinian.
“There were recent arrests and there were some activities and surveillance on Tinian. What were once obvious activities out in the open and solicitation are now more (subdued),” Torres said.
“But it doesn’t mean that they no longer exist so we continue to aggressively monitor the situation,” he added.
