Businesses encouraged to join PSS Career Fair

Tyce Mister, teacher and coordinator of cooperative education and training program at Marianas High School, said the event is slated for Sept. 19 and will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Saipan World Resort.

The cooperative program, or “Co-Op,” aims to help prepare students for the job market.

The program consists of cooperative education on campus and cooperative training off campus.

Mister said cooperative education students learn how to write their resumes and applications, and prepare for interviews.

Under the program, students gain work experience by participating as trainees at an off campus business organization.

“We are looking for businesses with qualified and experienced people to be assigned as a training mentor,” Mister said. “This person will be responsible for the student while the student receives on-the-job training at that particular business.”

The Career Fair, he added, aims to expose high school students to a variety of careers in the CNMI.

“Additionally, it will give students and employers an opportunity to meet each other and possibly set up an arrangement for cooperative training,” he said.

Students will receive school credits for participating in the cooperative training internship during their on-the-job training.
