Camacho to seek reelection, Atalig to finish term

Eric B. Atalig, a candidate for the House of Representatives in Precinct 2.

Council member Atalig said his son has deep involvement in community projects.

Camacho, for his part, said he will continue to push the development of  local agriculture to help revive the ailing economy.

He is one of the leaders of the local farmers support group which comprise the officials of Northern Marianas College- Cooperative Research Extension and Education Services, the Department of Land and Natural Resources and the Saipan Municipal Council

“I have to focus on land issues,” he said. “There are also issues in the villages that we need to address, like revitalizing the neighborhood task force.”

Camacho said he wants to encourage more local farmers and ranchers to establish  business networks and learn more about marketing and running successful enterprises.

He believes that local agriculture can make more progress even in a difficult economic environment because of the endless demand for fresh food and agricultural products.

The support group, he said, is now in the process of creating the board of a farmers cooperative.

Their group, he added, will study Guam’s cooperative to learn how it is administered successfully.

“We need to familiarize ourselves about the cooperative,” he said.

By the end of the year, Camacho said they expect the local cooperative to be “up and running.”
