Most of the participants brought their family members.
Event coordinator Evonne Sablan said there were at least a hundred participants in the Pink Ribbon Candle Light Vigil Parade that started at 5 p.m., at the Oleai Beach Pavilion, and ended at the former Hakubotan building in San Jose.
Bernie Dela Cruz, who is still undergoing treatment after being diagnosed with cancer last May, was among those who joined the parade. She was joined by her husband, Steve, her two brothers, sister-in-law, a nephew and a niece.
Dela Cruz said the cancer awareness events have been helping a lot especially to encourage members of the community to undergo annual check ups.
Monette Flores, 38, joined the parade with her mother-in-law, Salustiana, and 18-year-old daughter, Maica.
She said they have been participating in cancer awareness activities since 2004.
Her sister was diagnosed with breast cancer and had passed away.
She said her sister’s experience gave her the motivation to support cancer awareness efforts.
Sablan said they want to educate members of the community and raise their awareness regarding breast cancer.
