Car crash kills 2

Department of Public Safety Commissioner Santiago F. Tudela told the Variety  that the car was headed north when it hit the telephone pole at the intersection across from the Saipan World Resort and near the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library.

“The female driver and one of the male passengers died while the other two passengers,  male and female, are still in critical condition at the Commonwealth Health Center,” Tudela said.

He added that the four were not wearing seatbelts as all of them were thrown out  of the car as a result of the crash.

Tudela did not yet release the names of the victims.

“We still have to inform the next of kin of the two victims who died. The case is still under investigation,” he said.

Variety learned that alcohol and speed were factors in the accident.

The four came from the Saipan Grand Hotel’s Club V and were headed home.

Prior to the accident, the two male passengers were already in the car of their other friend, when one of them remembered that he left something in the female victim’s Ford.

The two men decided to ride in the Ford.
