Carnival rides inspected, have insurance, says Barcinas

Liberation Day Committee chairman Jonas Barcinas said the success of their ongoing events can be attributed to the full cooperation of the vendors, the staff of the Saipan mayor’s office, and Department of Public Safety personnel.

He said they anticipated problems during the span of the month-long celebration, but operations are doing fine so far.

“There have been no complaints. Everyone seems to be enjoying the event. Lots of kids on the rides and the entertainment is truly magnificent. We are crossing our fingers and hoping  it will all end nicely,” Barcinas said.

A concerned citizen called Variety to express his apprehension about the safety of the rides.

But Barcinas said a thorough inspection was conducted and the rides passed the inspection.

The rides also have insurance, he added.

“I want to assure parents that beforehand, an inspection was conducted and every company that participated provided insurance and presented proper documents before the committee gave its approval,” he said.

In related news, the Liberation Committee is inviting the CNMI youth to march with the Public School System’s float during the parade on July 4, a Sunday.

This year’s theme is “Celebrating Youth, Leaders of Tomorrow.”

Barcinas said they have also invited nonprofit organizations, including sports and dance clubs, to join the parade.

Today, the Liberation queen committee will count the fundraising tickets from the 10 candidates.

The candidate who raised the most funds will be declared the 2010 Liberation queen.

The winner will be announced on July 2 during the coronation of the Liberation queen at the Liberation activity center.
