Casino industry will need trade school students

“There’s an excitement both for the young and old now,” Calvo told Variety, adding that the project to establish a trade school on island is already in progress.

He said the casino industry will need skilled workers for the maintenance of the casino buildings and other facilities.

The Rota trade school program will also allow residents there to benefit from the military buildup on Guam.

Calvo said he is looking for local resident that can teach carpentry, plumbing, painting and electronics.

The Northern Marianas Trades Institute of Saipan businessman Anthony Pellegrino has already agreed to establish a satellite school on Rota, Cavo said.

He added that Pellegrino’s school is closely affiliated with the Guam Contractors Association Trades Academy, which will also accredit the school on Rota.

He said Northern Marianas College on Rota already agreed to allocate at least three class rooms for the trade school.

“It will not affect the NMC classes since the trade school class is held in the evening,” Calvo said.

Classes are tentatively scheduled to start in January, he added.
