Delboi Baiel and Sambal Espangel pleaded guilty to Illegal fishing for and possession of Humphead Parrotfish and Aiding and Abetting Illegally Taking of undersized Green Sea Turtle.
Chief Justice Arthur Ngiraklsong sentenced Espangel to $250 fine, which shall be paid on or before December 31, 2008.The government in exchange of Espangel’s guilty plea to Illegal Fishing and Possession of Humphead ParrotFish agreed to dismiss the other charges against him.Baiel who pleaded guilty to Aiding and Abetting Illegally taking of undersized Green Sea Turtle received three months of imprisonment, all suspended.Baiel was placed on unsupervised probation for three months.Chief Justice ordered him to pay a fine of $100.Both of Baiel and Espangel were ordered to testify truthfully in any proceedings related to the case.The two defendants were charged with 36 counts of criminal charges including conspiracy to illegally fish for and possess Coral Grouper Out of Season along with other defendant Harry “Kobito” Robot.Robot’s case is still pending in court.
