Ji Hoon Choi and his brother Won Woo Choi, both from CCA, finished first and second while Hyeon Joon Jun of Saipan International School finish third and Suk Koo Kim of Marianas Baptist Academy finish fourth in the individual category.
In the fast-pace oral match, Ji Hoon Choi got a score of 36 while Won Woo Choi finished with 35.
The rest of the top 10 were Hyeon Joon Jun of Saipan International School, 34 points; Hye Young Oh, Marianas Baptist Academy, 33; Feng Liang Lizama, Mount Carmel School, 32; Min Jeong Jang, CCA, 31; Han Sol Yu, CCA, 31; Suk Koo Kim, MBA, 31; Eron Constante, Saipan Community School, 28; and Se Young Hwang, MBA, 28.
The top teams were CCA “A,” 50.75 points; MBA “A,” 47.75; CCA “B,” 44.5; and Saipan International School “A,” 40.5.
Martha Camacho, CNMI Mathcount coordinator, said all schools that participated in the chapter competition can also join the state competition on March 7 which will be held at the same venue.
This year’s chapter competition was very successful, she added.
The annual competition, she said, allows students to develop their “higher thinking and problem solving skills.”
About 150 students from different public and private schools on Saipan, Tinian and Rota participated in the chapter competition.
The top four winners in March will participate in the national competition in Orlando, Florida on May 8, Camacho said.
Mathcounts is a national program that focuses on middle school students.

Mathcount organizers also thanked members of the Mount Carmel National Honor Society for helping tabulate the results last Saturday.
