Language center to give NMC ‘positive outlook’

In his brief statement during the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, NMC Chairman Charles V. Cepeda also said that the new language center is a reflection of the college’s efforts to maintain high academic standards.

Early this month, the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Associated of Schools and College, extended NMC’s “show cause” status.

“Students attending classes, faculty members providing quality education and our staff working hard will send a strong message to the accrediting body that NMC will rise to any challenge,” Cepeda said.

He said the center will become one of the busiest departments at the college.

The department will also play an integral part in NMC’s efforts to attract foreign students, he added.

Building M houses the Languages and Humanities Department, the English Language Institute and the English Learning Laboratory.

It has 18 offices, two classrooms, a conference room, and an administrative office.

Vicente Babauta, NMC Foundation president, said they will continue to ensure that the college will assist students in achieving their educational and professional goals.

The NMC Foundation, a non-profit organization composed of committed community volunteers, primarily from the business sector, contributed the center’s state-of-the-art equipment.

NMC President Carmen Fernandez said the Languages and Humanities Department offers language and humanities courses.

During Friday’s event on campus, Association of Student NMC president Ivan Mereb was the master of ceremony while Fr. Charlie Borja of St. Jude Parish blessed the facility.
