Cepeda elected new NMC chairman

The new chairman is  Charles V. Cepeda, who used to be the vice chairman and the acting chairman due to the absence, because of medical reasons, of then-Chairwoman Rita H. Inos.

The new vice chairwoman is former Rep. Maria T. Peter while former NMC President Agnes M. McPhetres was named new treasurer.

The other regents are Linsa F. Lizama of Saipan, attorney Janet King of Tinian and Elaine Hocog-Orilla of Rota.

Three honorary members are student regent Ivan Mereb, faculty regent Frank A. Sobolewski and staff regent Lorraine R. Cabrera.

Cepeda, whose term on the board ends in 2010, said the  board will continue to work closely with the NMC president to address accreditation concerns.

“We’re very positive that we can remove the college from its current show cause status,” he said.

The board, he added, will practice “transparency” in all its operations.

“Transparency and communicating well with the college and community members — that’s what everyone can expect from this new board,” he added.

Cepeda said NMC is moving along with the accreditation issues and diligently working on the reports.

NMC has until October to comply with the accreditation requirements of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
