GOVERNOR Juan N. Babauta has designated retired military officer Frank G. Cepeda as director of the Veterans and Military Affairs Office.
Babauta said Cepeda will serve as the overall protocol representative of the commonwealth government to various military affairs.
“This is what I’ve been waiting for. I am very excited. I can now help our community develop programs,” Cepeda told Variety yesterday.
His task also includes coordination and implementation of various activities and ongoing programs for the veterans.
Cepeda served 18 years in the U.S. Special Forces, or the Green Berets, which were also deployed recently in Afghanistan.
He saw action in the Vietnam War. In 1997, he was elected to represent Saipan’s Precinct 4 in the House of Representatives.
In the 2001 elections, he was the Republican Party’s unsuccessful Saipan mayoral candidate.
