“It has been an honor, and I hope I have done all I could for the chamber,” Barry said.
She thanked everyone for “allowing me to call Saipan my home for the last eight years.”
“I may be leaving the island, but I hope to continue to work and get things going for the chamber of commerce education committee from Washington, D.C.,” she added.
Barry encouraged everyone to continue getting involved, “not only because it is rewarding but it is so important.”
She added, “Find something that you are passionate about and do it.”
Barry and her family will be relocating to Virginia next week.
“Kathryn is a real friend and an asset to the chamber of commerce. It’s tough to see her go,” chamber vice president Jim Arenovski said.
He said Barry’s contributions to the chamber will never be forgotten.
“She has been very active in the education committee, in charity programs, scholarship committees and in church. Her passion is always felt in everything she does. Anyone who knows Kathryn Barry will know her tenacity and perseverance. When she gets to work, she creates action and she gets it done. She is always someone you can rely and call on,” he added.
Barry served as marketing manager for IT&E before working full time for the 2010 CNMI Census early this year.
Prior to working for IT&E, she was an instructor at Northern Marianas Academy and the sales and marketing director for Coca-Cola Micronesia.
Barry has been a board member of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, served on the selection panel for the CNMI Teacher of the Year Award, was an active member of the Rotary Club of Saipan and a volunteer for the World War II veteran groups that visited Saipan.
She was nominated for the Guam Business 2007 Businesswoman of the Year Award and for the Saipan Chamber of Commerce Businessperson of the Year Award.
Barry and her husband Jim have two sons, Chris and Bo.
