Doug Brennan is still the president for 2011 but a new vice president, Vince Seman, was elected. Mike Johnson was elected treasurer and Jojo Camacho was elected secretary.
Brennan is the vice president and general manager of Microl Corp. and has been a member of the chamber since 2003. He also co-chairs the chamber’s armed forces committee and represents the chamber to the governor’s civilian-military task force.
Seman, of Carlsmith Ball law firm is in his fifth year of law practice, but prior to his current post, he has had experience in simultaneous management positions for different companies on island. He also served as member of the Northern Marianas College board of regents for five years.
Johnson is the managing partner of Deloitte on Saipan and Palau and has been the chamber treasurer for three consecutive terms in the early 1990s. He has held the same position in the chamber since 2005. Camacho is the marketing manager of Marianas Pacific Distributors Inc. since 2005. He is also involved in community organizations and an active member of the chamber.
Three board members were elected into office yesterday — Ayako Matsumoto, vice president of Pacific Eagle Enterprises, David M. Sablan Sr., of Century Insurance Company and Jolene Torres, managing director of Marianas International Travel Agency.
Matsumoto is the business development manager of the Flame Tree TV/Visitor’s Channel. She is a board member of the Japanese Society of the NMI, and is a member of several organizations including Beautify CNMI, MINA, Commonwealth Women’s Golf Association, among other groups.
Sablan has held various government posts and has been deeply involved in tourism for over four decades. He holds several key positions in various companies under the Tan Holdings Corporation. He is actively involved in community groups and associations such as the Saipan Rotary Club, Commission on Federal Laws, Make-a-Wish Foundation, Employer Support for the National Guard and Reserve, and more.
Torres has served the community as current officer of the board of directors for the Society of Human Resource Management, former officer of Garapan Elementary School PTA, and volunteer of American Red Cross, MINA and Beautify CNMI.
Brennan told the Variety that he will try to do his best to come up to the expectations of the chamber for 2011.
“The reality is that the business community is going to face some great challenges in the coming months. There are a lot of issues to be addressed and 2011 looks more difficult than this year,” Brennan said.
“All we ask is for the business community to hang on, work together to stay up despite the hard economy,” he said.
