Chamber of Commerce to host series of procurement assistance trainings

The first sessions will begin on Nov. 9 on Tinian, and Nov. 10 on Saipan.

Chamber executive director Richard  A. Pierce said  the workshops on Saipan are scheduled for Nov. 10, Jan. 6, Feb. 17, April 13, May 25 and July 6.

Boris Hertslet, senior procurement counselor for the Procurement Technical Assistance Center, will conduct the seminars. The Tinian workshops will be held a day before each Saipan session.

The workshop on Nov.10 will be from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and will include an orientation, the first steps of federal contracting and the federal registrations process.

The workshop will also include obtaining Data Universal Numbering System or DUNS numbers and registering in the Central Contractor Registration or CCR as well as maintaining and updating your CCR, Small Business Administration profile and Online Representations and Certifications Application, or ORCA.

The workshop in Jan. 2012 will include instruction in basic business documents for federal contracting and developing a capabilities statement, while the February workshop will cover government subcontracting and teaming and joint ventures.

The workshop slated for May 2012 will cover FedBizOpps: understanding government solicitations and responding to RFP’s while the June 2012 workshop will cover HUBZone application process and 8(a) application process. The July workshop next year will cover women-owned small businesses.

Members of the chamber will be charged only $10 for each workshop they attend, with one representative per member allowed. All others, including non-members, will be charged $20 per attendee. Seating is limited to 35 participants.
