Yap plans war on mosquitoes

Members of the group were selected from relevant agencies of the state government as well as the private and non-government organizations on island.

The formulation of the group came as a result of the decision by Yap State Gov. Sebastian Anefal to declare a “state of emergency to preserve public health against the spread of the dengue virus.”

The group has been charged by the Department of Health to develop a short term plan to address the present situation in the State at this point in time and perhaps carry out the planning for a campaign that will keep Yap free of dengue.

The meeting held in the community health center conference room Thursday was the second time for the group to meet to discuss the action plan and when the people of the entire state should engage in the eradication of the mosquitoes and their breeding grounds by means of an island-wide cleanup effort.

All the concerns that were discussed during the meeting will be incorporated into the plan and submitted to the governor for approval before any action will be taken.

The group held another meeting on Monday, Dec. 5, to decide on how to coordinate the final plan and how best to inform the public.
