This was the goal of the Northern Marianas Protection and Advocacy Systems Inc. as it conducted a three-day “Patient with Disabilities” seminar last week.
NMPASI project specialists Thomas Thornburgh and Gregory Borja said there were 200 participants.
“We’ve worked with Department of Public Health in the past,” Thornburgh said.
He said the seminar allowed healthcare providers to be aware of the rights of people with disabilities.
They also learned how to address other concerns, including patient’s rights and responsibilities, he added.
Those who attended the seminar interact with people who seek healthcare services at CHC, Thornburgh said.
Marciana Igitol, CHC human resources manager, said NMPASI requested to conduct the seminar.
She said CHC staff and nurses were off-duty when they attended the seminar, which started on Thursday in the Public Health secretary’s conference room, and was divided into five sessions with 40 persons attending each meeting.
The seminar concluded on Friday.
