CHC volunteer head leaving Saipan

Prinz yesterday was busy wrapping up the plans for her farewell pool tournament at  Round 2 Bar in Garapan.

She told Variety that she has decided to leave the island she considered home for 19 years and will be in Canada in the first week of November “to be with my family” — her 84-year-old mother, three daughters and four granddaughters.

The lost of some family members last year and just recently convinced her to get closer to her family.

Prinz arrived on Saipan in 1989 as the overseas community chairwoman of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America.

In 1995, she spearheaded a pool tournament and opened the Corner Pocket Poll Hall in Garapan in 1996.

It was in 1990 when she joined the CHC Volunteers Association which was founded in 1986.

She recalled that she was asked by Susie Davis to join the group during their days with the Saipan Rotary Club.

Since then, Prinz has been continuously holding fundraising campaigns for CHC.

She said Maggie DLG. Wonenberg will take over their group’s fundraising events.

Since she has no family here, Prinz is the only one among the volunteers in the hospital who can devote her whole time for the association.

Now that she’s leaving, she has delegated her duties to the other volunteers who, she said, can also do the job.

Still, she added, her friends and commitment to volunteer works are making it difficult for her to leave the island.

Next week, the CHC Volunteer Association will meet to discuss the election of a new president.
