CHCC completes and connects Solar PV Phase 2

ON April 28, 2025, the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation proudly announces the successful completion, connection, and commissioning of Solar Photovoltaic Phase II, in collaboration with the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation. The newly operational system adds 176 kW of renewable energy to CHCC’s growing solar capacity, further solidifying the corporation’s commitment to sustainable healthcare delivery in the CNMI.

This milestone follows the successful integration of Phase I, which has been generating 162 kW of clean energy since its commissioning. With Phase II now online, CHCC’s total installed solar capacity has reached 338 kW, enabling significant progress toward reducing energy costs, enhancing energy independence, and lowering the organization’s carbon footprint.

“We are thrilled to see Phase II come to life,” said Esther L. Muna, CHCC chief executive officer. “This achievement represents more than just an energy upgrade — it reflects our long-term vision for a resilient and environmentally responsible healthcare system that serves the people of the CNMI.”

Phase II, funded through the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Energizing Insular Communities Grant Program, was awarded to the CNMI Governor’s Office, Office of Grants Management, on behalf of CHCC. This partnership highlights the coordinated efforts between local and federal stakeholders to invest in critical infrastructure that benefits both public health and environmental sustainability.

Looking ahead, CHCC is preparing for the launch of Solar PV Phase III, which will contribute an additional 176 kW of solar energy to CHCC’s facilities.

CHCC extends its deep gratitude to the Office of the Governor, Office of Grants Management, CNMI Energy Division, and CUC for their continued support and technical expertise throughout the development and commissioning of Phase II.

With each completed phase, CHCC moves closer to realizing a healthcare system powered by clean, renewable energy — one that promotes long-term sustainability, economic efficiency, and a healthier future for all CNMI residents.
