THE Commonwealth Healthcare Corp., along with the Division of Youth Services, concluded a two-month program to educate the youth about noncommunicable diseases by hosting the Youth Empowerment Action for Health on Saturday, Dec. 9 at the Crowne Plaza Resort.
The event was also an opportunity for student participants to gain public speaking experience through sharing the knowledge they gained after attending two months of workshops organized by the Non-communicable Disease Program at CHCC, YEAH facilitator Eloise Lopez said.
On Saturday, dozens of high school students presented on a wide range of topics related to non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes, suicide ideation, food addiction, and more.
Lopez said the point of the program was to educate students so they can make informed decisions to avoid non-communicable diseases, and to also allow the participants to become student mentors.
She said the program was a chance for the students to fine-tune their presentations and speaking ability. The students will also take their presentations to classrooms and other venues on Saipan.
