Chinese province eyes Guam as a tourist destination

Zheijiang has the fourth largest economy of all of China’s 31 provinces. The two leaders met at a special U.S.-China Governors Forum hosted by the National Governors Association in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The leader of the Chinese province with the largest number of outbound Chinese tourists will be encouraging his people to vacation on Guam.

“U.S. governors and the Obama administration understand how critical it is for the nation to build economic alliances with China,” Calvo said.

“The nation recognizes China’s growing influence. This is why China and the U.S. are engaging in this sub-national exchange. Guam can be at the center of this alliance and growth. We are the closet U.S. community to China,” he added.

Zhao was very familiar with Guam, its location and its reputation as a tourist destination. He mentioned that many of his province’s citizens currently vacation in Singapore, which is six flight hours away from his province. Guam is only four flight hours away.

Zhao said he is enthusiastically looking forward to hosting Governor Calvo later this year in China. Calvo is expected to lead a trade mission to China later this year.
