CNMI House and Rota Legislative Delegation honor former Sen. Manglona for lifetime of service

ON Friday, May 23, 2025, the 24th CNMI House of Representatives and the 24th Rota Legislative Delegation came together in a historic joint tribute to honor former Sen. Paul Atalig Manglona for his more than 36 years of outstanding public service to the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

The House resolution was formally introduced by Rep. Julie A. Ogo of Rota and co-sponsored by the entire House membership, with a companion resolution introduced by the 24th Rota Legislative Delegation. Together, both legislative bodies paid tribute to a leader whose quiet strength, wisdom, and unwavering dedication have left an indelible mark on the CNMI.

In attendance to witness the tribute were House Speaker Edmund Villagomez, Vice Speaker Diego Vincent Camacho, Rep, Joel Camacho, Rota Delegation Chairman Donald Manglona and members, Senate President Dennis Mendiola, Sen, Ron Calvo, and Representative Julie Ogo. Former Sen. Paul A. Manglona was joined by his wife Lydia, their son Denn, and daughter-in-law.

Former Senator Manglona expressed heartfelt gratitude to both legislative bodies for the recognition, stating, “I am deeply humbled and touched by this tribute. It has been the honor of my life to serve the people of Rota and the CNMI. I now look forward to spending more time with my wife, children, grandchildren, and family, and enjoying this next chapter in retirement,” he said.

He also affirmed his continued commitment to contributing his time and experience outside the Legislature to support the people of the Commonwealth — especially the island of Rota.

Rep. BJ Attao, due to a prior family commitment, was unable to attend the event but sent his regards, sharing his profound respect for former Senator Manglona’s exemplary legacy in the Senate and his dedication to the people of the CNMI.

This tribute reflects the enduring gratitude and respect that both legislative bodies and the people of the Marianas hold for one of the CNMI’s most distinguished statesmen.
