Irene Tantiado, the coalition’s president, said some members of the community, including local residents, have been asking their group to join protest actions against CUC.
Tantiado said they will stage a protest rally outside the CUC power plant in the Lower Base this afternoon.
The assembly time is 5:30 p.m. so office workers can immediately proceed to the area after their shift ends, Tantiado said, adding that they opted not to stage the protest outside the CUC office in Dandan to avoid a disrupting the operations of the private establishments in the area.
“This will be a peaceful rally,” Tantiado said as she appealed to CUC to send a representative who will listen on the “grievances and sentiments” of the community.
Taotao Tano president Greg Cruz said his group will be joining the protest.
“That’s one thing that we can agree on,” he told Variety.
Cruz said the people are “suffering too much already.”
The protesters will complain about CUC’s erroneous billing, unscheduled power outages and ever increasing power rate, Tantiado said.
She said “the issue here is not about the guest workers — this concerns the general public and our coalition is only spearheading the protest.”
She hopes the protest will result in an open dialogue between CUC and the community “so we can find ways to address the problem — it is important the public should be involved in this problem.”
The coalition is inviting other groups and advocates to join the rally.
If CUC will not address their complaints, Tantiado said the agency should expect more protest actions.
“But if they are willing to work with us the people can offer suggestions and solution to the problem,” she added.
