Crisostimo may face Cing in Democratic primary

Cing has already submitted his letter of intent to the Democratic Party.

“After careful consideration, I have made up my mind to run,” Cing said in a letter to Sablan. “I am confident that you and the (central executive) committee will make a sound decision regarding this matter.”

Sablan said the party’s central executive committee will meet this week to discuss a primary.

Aug. 6 is the deadline for filing a candidacy.

Sablan said they may not have enough time to organize a primary between now and the deadline.

“That is a liability for us. We’ve been hanging on this for too long. But next week we will decide,” he said.

The CNMI Republican Party had three potential candidates but two — Rep. Ray N. Yumul and attorney Vic DLG. Torres —eventually gave up in favor of Washington Rep. Pete A. Tenorio.

Cing yesterday said he is hoping Crisostimo will support him instead.

The Saipan senator, however, has already installed campaign billboards in strategic locations throughout the island.
