To help educate the children, CRM is encouraging parents to enlist their 13- to 16-year-old children for the upcoming camp to be held on August 11-13.
The camp, called the 2009 Ridge Reef Camp, is a free educational program that will enable youths to explore the interconnectedness of the CNMI’s land and sea resources.
During the camp, children will be on field trips to Kagman Wetland, Laolao Watershed and Managaha Marine Protected Area.
According to CRM, the camp is conducted to orient the youth about these places.
CRM said they want students to find out the relation of human beings to the marine resources which is now being destroyed by irresponsible human activities and excessive usage.
The program, which is funded by the CNMI Coral Reef Initiative (CRI) and the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is also hosted by the Division of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and Coastal Resources Management Office (CRMO).
