“Ms. Younis brings a wealth of experience in educational leadership and management that will serve the college well,” NMC Chairman Charles V. Cepeda said.
Cepeda said the board is looking forward to work with Younis as the college “continues to grow and move forward in its mission of improving the quality of life for all CNMI residents.”
NMC President Carmen Fernandez said she was “very pleased” with the appointment and confirmation of Younis.
“Regent Younis’s credentials and life experience make her highly qualified to serve as a regent. She is a respected leader in the CNMI and she will be an asset to board,” Fernandez said.
Younis is the Variety’s co-publisher.
Her nomination was unanimously confirmed on Aug. 7 by the Senate, and she will serve on the NMC board for a four-year term.
In endorsing her confirmatinon, the Senate Commitee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigation said Younis is “a highly respected within the community. [She] has demonstrated the capability of representing objectively the community’s aspirations in issues of postsecondary education.”
