Coming soon: ‘The Enchantrees’

The movie, depicting love, passion, conflict and struggle, also involves witchcraft, magic, spells and potions, will be interpreted by 10 characters, including one experienced actress, and almost all senior citizens of the center.

Walter Manglona, he Manamko’ Center’s program coordinator, combined the talents and skills of the senior citizens to realize an “unfunded yet noble project.”

“One of our actresses has a role in two Philippine films, Mila Garin,” he said.

The movie was filmed in different locations such as Susupe Lake, the Hyatt Regency Garden and other places on island.

Manglona said the movie will run for 25 minutes but a lot of segments are also included to make it an hour-long film.

“We avoided as much as possible touching on Chamorro and Carolinian cultures because it’s very complicated,” he said. “It will take a lot of study and research.”

They have at least 10 ethnic groups within the Manamko Center, he added, and it would not be fair to concentrate only on one cultural group.

Novelyn Tenorio, one of the staff members of the Manamko’ Center, assisted Manglona in producing the movie which will be shown to public on May 13 and 14.

Manglona said the tentative venue will be American Memorial Park’s amphitheater and the price for the ticket is yet to be decided.

The proceeds of the movie will finance the manamko’s trip to Guam in Jun.

Department of Community and Cultural Affairs Secretary Celilia Taitano and Office of the Aging Director Howard Macaranas are very supportive of the project, Manglona said.
