Commerce to hire new director

The Office of Personnel Management will process all applicants for the position.

Starting in 1993, SBDC had its office at Northern Marianas College, but due to funding issues it was discontinued in 2006.

At NMC, the center had a director, three business consultants and an office manager.

Commerce was able to re-establish the center through a memorandum of agreement with the University of Guam’s Pacific Islands Small Business Development Center last month.

SBDC aims to provide technical assistance and guidance to small business owners who want to expand their operations and find ways to survive the continuing economic slump.

Commerce Secretary Michael Ada, in a media statement, said the re-establishment of SBDC will help boost the island’s economy while “we continue to attract outside investments.”
