Common-law wife of defendant in rape case appears in court

Reyes, Jackson’s common-law wife, told Judge Kenneth L. Govendo that “it is okay” for her and her young daughter to be with Jackson, 32, charged with kidnapping and raping a 15-year-old girl.

Reyes told the court that Jackson “stood for his daughter when she was almost raped” on Guam.

The court earlier granted the oral motion of Assistant Attorney General Shelli Neal to order Jackson to stay away from all minors in the event the defendant secures a pretrial release.

Govendo suggested to the prosecution to ask for the inclusion of the couple’s daughter in the home study program of the Division of Youth Services.

Police said after Jackson sexually abused his victim inside his silver/gray Honda Civic near the old Japanese bunkers on Airport Road, he smoked “ice” and forced his victim to smoke, too.

Govendo retained the $100,000 cash bail earlier imposed on Jackson. The prosecution wanted it raised to $250,000.

After the hearing, Jackson was remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections.

Jackson is being held on charges of kidnapping, rape, sexual abuse of a minor, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.

In 1998, Jackson was sentenced to three years imprisonment, all suspended, except for 60 days, for burglary. For theft and criminal mischief, he was sentenced to a one-year jail term but all suspended.
